My Mate Fancies You is our long running puberty education programme for key stages 2 and 3. The very first version of this programme was run in January 1995 and has been updated every year…only this year’s update is a bit different.

This new approach allows us to prepare children for puberty even when we can’t physically go into schools to perform. The usual live drama performance has been adapted into a 30 minute animated film which is followed by a virtual lesson where our Actor / Facilitators connect ‘live’ to the classroom to run a discussion to unpick the learning from the film.

“Thank you so much for your efforts this year to deliver My Mate Fancies You to our Year 6s. I was incredibly impressed. The film was brilliant – we all loved it and it had something of the wonderful energy and certainly the humour of the ‘real thing’. WOW!.” – Head of PSHE, Bromsgrove School

The new film uses the characters of Claire and Daniel from the usual live drama as they learn about the physical and emotional changes that take place during puberty. During the film Claire and Daniel try to answer a series of questions that they and other children have about puberty. They talk to the pupils watching, and show a series of short films that help to explore lots of topics including periods, pubic hair, mood swings and body odour.

The film uses a mix of styles and approaches to help ensure that the information is varied and engaging with a mixture of great facts, tips and advice on where to get more support.
